THE GLOBAL GIVING STORY
#GivingTuesday brings people together from around the world. It's roots began in America but it has since expanded into a global movement inviting anyone to get involved.
What is #GivingTuesday?
On the first Tuesday in December, every year, we encourage New Zealand businesses, charities, community groups, families, and individuals to join the global movement and celebrate a day of giving to kick off the giving season. We're calling this day #GivingTuesday.
#GivingTuesday was started in 2012 by New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. Together, they rallied different sectors together to give back and support local causes and communities. The inaugural #GivingTuesday saw over 2500 not-for-profit and business partners participate in different ways that not only resulted in awareness being raised of key issues but also a significant increase in giving on that day.
Now it's time for New Zealanders to give back and show the world what we can do together.

For charities and community groups
Run your own initiative (no matter how big or small) with the theme of 'giving'. List your event here to let the community know what you're up to. Mobilise your community and get them involved.
For Businesses and Corporates
Find a charity or community group to support. Show your giving spirit by getting in touch and getting involved. Why prompt the staff to get involved and spread the word?
Keep an eye out for charities or businesses who are running an event or even run your own! Show your support via social media and let your friends and followers know who you're giving to and why.
